Projects / Barnard College,
Religion, Freedom and the Politics of Identity
PI: Janet Jakobsen, Director, Barnard Center for Research on Women and Professor of Women’s Studies.
The goal of Barnard’s Religion, Freedom, and the Politics of Identity project (RFPI) is to create a campus environment where students and faculty can engage deeply in intellectual and personal explorations of political and religious issues. RFPI consists of three interrelated components: a faculty seminar that will address topics at the intersection of religion and academic freedom and explore pedagogical approaches to controversial issues; advanced seminars for seniors exploring the intersection of religion and the academy; and new and revised courses for Barnard’s general education curricula. The RFPI will support the creation of new curricular material and pedagogy at key transition points for students, first as freshmen and later in a senior seminar.
